Drumset and Percussion
Matt graduated with a music degree from the University of Virginia where he studied jazz, African percussion and ethnomusicology. He teaches drumset and percussion full time, while also performing as a freelance drummer with such bands as Os Magrelos, Old School Freight Train, Beleza Brazil, and his solo project, Mantis. Matt works with each student to determine his or her specific musical goals. These goals often involve attention to motion and technique, world, funk, and rock drumming, listening and ear training, learning to record, reading music, and composing grooves for drumset.
